| Credentials John Cooper BA; Grad Dip Psych; Assoc.MAPS; MASOCHA.
John works with private and referred clients and treats a range of presenting issues including troubled relationships, troubled children and teens, trauma, grief, anger, depression, chemical dependence, and anxiety. He is an accredited Medicare provider. John majored in Psychology at LaTrobe University Bendigo and then completed a Graduate Diploma with Distinction in Psychology at RMIT University Bundoora in the late 1990's. Further to his formal studies, John has been trained by a number of leading figures in their field including from the Solution Oriented and Ericksonian Approachs David Johnson, Jeffrey Zeig, George Burns and Rob McNeilly ; and from Mindfullness Approach Russ Harris and George Burns and Dzigar Kongtrül Rinpoche. John is an accredited presenter of the acclaimed and powerful Scott Sell's' Parenting with Love and Limits' program, a 6 to 8 session program aimed at helping parents and their troubled teen to re-establish limits (boundaries) and love. He has been trained in Be Set Free Fast (BSFF) an approach developed by Dr Larry Nims PhD for the treatment of excessive and unwanted emotional response to past events. The trainers were Jenny and Leigh Skewes; and Dr Dennis Shum and Dr Janice Fairbairn. John has completed three, year long, Diplomas with Ampersand Australia viz. the Diploma of Counselling Psychology in 2000, the Advanced Diploma of Counselling Psychology in 2001, and the Diploma of Solution Oriented Hypnosis in 2006. Since 2003 John has been facilitating Discovering the Art of Effective Counselling, an Ampersand Australia 40 hr introductory program to Counselling, and more recently, facilitated a Diploma of Counselling Psychology. He has presented half and one day workshops for National Organisations with operations in the Bendigo area. In May 2007 he attended a Mindfulness, Meditation and Happiness Study Tour to Bhutan lead by George Burns, Director of the Milton Erickson Institute of Western Australia, and the author of six books including 101 Metaphors . John is serving his second term as a member of the executive committee of the Australian Psychological Society's Bendigo Branch. He is also currently serving his second term as President of the Association of Solution Oriented Counsellors and Hypnotherapists of Australia (ASOCHA – an organisation established to serve the ongoing needs and professional development of graduates of Ampersand Australia Diploma programs. ASOCHA is a constituent member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia [PACFA]). He previously served 4 terms as Secretary as well as convening ASOCHA's Annual Conference held at Melbourne University from 2004 to 2006.
